A West Burnside shop called house of Shroom had a lineup out the door and was open until police raided it in December. During that raid, officers seized 22 pounds of psilocybin, a hallucinogen from certain types of mushrooms, and $13,000 in cash. The Portland Police Bureau said it made four arrests. The store is now marked as permanently closed on Google Maps.
The psychedelic mushroom store had been selling its product in violation of state law, which says adults can only take psilocybin on the premises of a licensed “service center” under the guidance of a trained facilitator. The law, Measure 109, also decriminalized possession of small amounts of psilocybin. But that doesn’t mean it’s legal to sell it at retail stores like Shroom House, which was a popular destination in the city.

Owner 32-year-old Steven Tachie and 42-year-old store manager Jeramiahs Geronimo have both pleaded not guilty to 40 felony charges related to the operation, including selling psilocybin without a license. They face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges. They were also charged with illegally delivering the drug within 1,000 feet of a school, Cathedral School, a Catholic kindergarten-through-8th grade campus, per Willamette Week.
